Course Objectives:

Overview of the unique anatomical and functional aspects of the TMJ that impact your patients health, dental care. Addressing TMD focused dental care in orthodontics and restorative care. Treatment of orofacial pain with splint therapy and holistic approach to pain management.

Speaker Bio: Mark Abramson, DDS graduated from UMd School of Dentistry in 1975 and residency at the Palo Alto VA Hospital in 1976. Dr. Abramson is board certified  by the American Board of Orofacial Pain and the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine. Dr. Abramson is the developer of the OASYS and the OASYS Hinge appliance. Mark Abramson established the Stanford’s Mindfulness Clinic in 1996. He has recorded webinars for the ADA, Stanford Corporate Partners.

The Opioid Crisis in America


Course Objectives:
Opioid misuse and abuse exist in the United States. Scientific evidence supports that the most vulnerable population for developing new problems with opioid misuse, abuse, and addiction is the adolescent, teenage and early 20’s populations due to ongoing brain development.
1. Understand the scope of the opioid crisis in the United States
2. Why adolescents and teenagers are at the greatest risk for addiction
3. Understanding the developing brain and why the developing brain is so susceptible to abuse and addiction to opioids
4. Understand what steps can be taken to help reduce narcotic use and exposure to all patients but especially this subset.
5. Why awareness and education is the first and the most critical step in controlling this epidemic
At the end of the course, practitioners should understand the broad nature of the opioid crisis and why it is an epidemic. Recognize the signs and symptoms of narcotic abuse. They should understand why these drugs have such an abuse potential and what steps they can take to do their part in controlling this crisis.

Speaker Bio: William Bruce Bohannan DDS, MD has been practicing oral and maxillofacial surgery since 1998.  He is an honor graduate of UOP Dental School and graduated with distinction from University of Missouri where he received his medical degree and completed his residency.  He became board certified in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 2000.  He maintains private practices in Burlingame and San Jose.  Dr. Bohannan was the past director of surgical services at ClearChoice Dental Implant Center in San Jose where he performed many full arch reconstruction cases.
