8-Hour Infection Control Course for Unlicensed Dental Assistants and Prerequisite for RDA Orthodontic and Dental Sedation Assistant Permits

8 CE Unit (Core)
8-Hour Program (4-Hour Lecture, 4 Hours in Dental Office). Mandatory for all unlicensed dental assistants hired after Jan. 1, 2010. According to California Dental Practice Act Business and Professions Code, Article 7, Section 1750 (c), the supervising licensed dentist will be responsible for ensuring that each unlicensed dental assistant, who is in his or her continuous employ for 120 days or more, has successfully completed board approved courses in Dental Practice Act, Basic Life Support CPR and an 8-hour course in infection control within one year of employment. The course is divided into two modules: 4 hours of Didactic and 4 hours of Clinical. The Didactic portion of the course (4 hours) is taken as home study, and must be completed prior to on-site training. The clinical portion of the course (4 hours) is presented live, hands-on in a clinical setting. This course satisfies the requirements of the Dental Board of California and the prerequisite for the RDA exam. Unlicensed Dental Assistants will receive an 8-hour Infection Control certificate. RDA’s will receive an 8-hour Infection Control certificate and 4 hours live CE and 4 hours home study CE. If any RDAs are applying for Dental Sedation or Orthodontic Assistant permits, they will receive an 8-hour Infection Control certificate and CE credit for license renewal.
The Dental Practice Act home study course is included with this course and will be e-mailed.

4-Hour Clinical Module in Dental Office ▪ 8:00am-12:00pm ▪ 4 CE (Core)

You will be taught the basic concepts of infection control in a dental office while learning how to minimize the risks associated with Bloodborne Pathogens. This course covers: prevention of cross-contamination, disinfection, sterilization methods, handling contaminated instruments, proper handwashing techniques, use of personal protective equipment, handling and disposal of sharps waste, dental unit waterline maintenance/monitoring, and the Dental Board of California’s Section 1005 “Minimum Standards for Infection Control".
What to Bring
Your own clinical jacket, box of exam gloves in your size, surgical face masks (at least 3) and protective eyewear, (face shield or safety glasses) and your 3 ring Infection Control binder with your infection control exam answer sheet.
