About Us

The San Mateo County Dental Society (SMCDS) was founded in 1929, incorporated in 1960, chartered as a component of the California Dental Association (CDA) in 1973 under the prestigious national umbrella of the American Dental Association (ADA) to serve the needs, interests, and aspirations of dental professionals across San Mateo County, from our northern boundary of Daly City south through Redwood City and coastside, Pacifica to Half Moon Bay.

Our member body of dental professionals – nearly 700 strong, 77% of all dentists in San Mateo County – share a common commitment to advancing the art and science of dentistry as well as the dental health of our community. SMCDS has been recognized by state and local governments for our deep concern and unselfish dedication to improving dental health among the needy children and elderly of our county.

SMCDS supports members in achieving and maintaining high standards of professionalism and leadership within dentistry and our community through locally-based continuing education programs, community outreach programs, involvement in state and national legislative venues.

SMCDS recognizes the challenges of operating a dental practice in today’s increasingly competitive managed care environment and strives to offer its membership, through local resources and our partnership with CDA and ADA, a wide variety of programs and information designed to assist members in creating and sustaining successful practices.

For the community in which we live and practice, SMCDS provides general dentist and specialist referrals, up-to-date listings of dental auxiliary personnel seeking positions in our area, complaint mediation through the Peer Review process, information about dental care assistance programs, financial and advisory assistance to local colleges and occupational programs to support development and operation of dental auxiliary training / certification programs.
