Medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) is an increasingly relevant condition as more patients present with histories of antiresorptive and antiangiogenic therapy. For the general dentist, early recognition and appropriate management can significantly impact patient outcomes and quality of life.
This lecture will provide a practical, case-based approach to identifying at-risk
patients, understanding disease progression, and confidently navigating communication with the patient’s medical team. Attendees will leave with clear strategies to prevent complications, manage MRONJ at various stages, and effectively counsel patients in everyday clinical practice.
Course Objectives:
- Identify medication classes associated with MRONJ
- Recognize patient risk factors and clinical presentations
- Describe the staging of MRONJ and treatment planning implications
- Apply evidence based strategies for prevention and treatment
- Counsel patients with confidence
